There is no test that can determine if a relationship or marriage is over or in trouble. Nevertheless, there are some distinct and significant characteristics that can act as indicators of a troubled relationship.     • You are in an abusive relationship.
    • You give up and are no longer interested or motivated to work on your relationship or marital issues.
    • Resentment and contempt replace patience and love.
    • One or both of you are alcoholics or drug users.
    • One of you is having an affair.
    • You avoid being together and when together, you have nothing to talk about.
    • You no longer have an active sex life.
    • You do not agree on how to parent your children.
    • You do not have equal access to finance.
    • You are both sleeping in separate rooms.
    • You are entertaining thoughts about divorce.
    • Your children are self-destructing and reacting to your relationship stress by fighting more, engaging in sexualized behaviour or addictions, studies deteriorate etc.
    • You no longer respect or value your partner. You are often sarcastic and put your partner down.
    • You never have a disagreement. One of you is constantly giving in.
